Six Foot Track Marathon 2009

Filed under: Status — Darran at 10:51 pm on Monday, April 20, 2009

The Six Foot Track Marathon was on March 14, 2009. Pics just came in and I finally found a feasible way to upload the pics on Ubuntu. Flickr and Webshots weren’t being friendly with Firefox or Opera, however, a switch to Picasa showed that Google is able to jive with the nix environment. If this continues to be the case, I might migrate from Webshots to Picasa. Another option is to host my own picture service like I did for the Europe pictures. Additionally, I am not going to append Surry Hills, NSW, Australia to the end of blog posts from now on. I will append location to the end of posts when the location or subject of the post differs from my normal location.

Also, uploaded the pics to Webshots for completeness. Had to use Opera and it took about 1000% longer than Picasa.

3000 Miles – Surry Hills, NSW, Australia

Filed under: Status — Darran at 11:35 pm on Friday, April 17, 2009

It’s been 7 months since I got back on the bike. Before leaving, I sold both of my race bikes and ran over my last remaining bike, a mountain bike, on accident. On September 15, 2008, I got back on the bike and since then have travelled 3000 miles.

So what?

I guess it is not that big of a deal. But here are some of the things I have recognized as being different in my life after choosing a bicycle as my main form of transportation.

  • I feel stronger and more physically fit.
  • I travel for pretty much free.
  • Traffic and parking rarely seem to be an issue.
  • I produce less toxic output from travelling(depends on fuel intake).
  • When I get to where I am going, I am awake, alert, and energized.

Lastly, today is my birthday. Somehow I made it to 26 years old. Never saw this one coming, but im still kicking. Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. Truly appreciate it.

State of whereisdarran.com – Surry Hills, NSW, Australia

Filed under: Status — Darran at 7:37 pm on Saturday, April 11, 2009

While trying to keep the site as fresh as possible, I have let some sections go by the wayside. Here is a current status on whereisdarran.com.

Home: Typically updated weekly

About: Fairly static, up-to-date

Location: Out of date – hasn’t been updated for about 8 months – Need to update google map showing transition to Australia

Travel Log: Up to date on google documents – WordPress crapped out on that page and I haven’t been able to fix it – I have been updating it independently and will merge both pages when I can fix Travel Log in wordpress

Music: Had high hopes – just shows my bad musical tastes – not updated in a couple of months

Gear: About 6 months out of date

Live: Bandwidth restrictions have made this part of the site unfeasible

Training: Up-to-Date on Google documents – need to re-enable google doc integration

Race: About 4 months out of date on site – have updated spreadsheet on hard drive

There it is.
